Why Hashtags Are Important? 5 Reasons You can’t Skip

Despite the many jokes and humorous skits about hashtag overuse, they are a staple of digital marketing when used correctly. You can follow and manipulate specific hashtags to keep your current topics/trends up to date. You can create your own hashtags to promote new products and services or search for hashtags to promote digital marketing.

When and how did hashtags become such a trend?

Originally called the number sign, hashtags were used in IRC (Internet Relay Chat) in the late 1990s and didn’t show up on the Internet until they were used to create and categorize groups. The hashtag epidemic we know today didn’t start until 2007 when Chris Messina tweeted his followers and asked what he thought about grouping conversions using the pound sterling symbol.

As the use of tags became more widespread, other social platforms also adapted their use. It’s hard to challenge the simplicity and effectiveness of hashtags. Easy to create and search, it’s a great marketing tool for businesses, organizations, celebrities, and even the general public. When introducing hashtags to Twitter, Messina asks the user to follow a particular hashtag and configure it. Intended to show all tweets. Of course,  users can now insert as many hashtags as they can think of (at least within Twitter’s character limits) and use Twitter’s search feature to easily search for those tags. The funny thing is that Instagram’s recently released features actually work as Messina originally intended.

Immediately after the release of the Instagram Story poll last October, we also introduced the ability for users to follow hashtag two months later. Previously, you could click on a hashtag in a post or search using it in the Search section of Instagram. When you follow tags, the newsfeed now shows the highlight of those, just like the account you’re following.

Once a feature of Twitter, hashtags are becoming an increasingly important aspect of Instagram. In an interview with The Verge, the designer behind this new feature, Matthew Ogle, explained: Hashtags are already this bottom-up community-driven aggregation, so they have some very nice properties. “

This usually leads to new followers and potential customers.

3. Promotion

One of the main reasons hashtags have gained such a reputation on social media is their ability to help marketers and businesses create targeted campaigns.
